First, so much thanks to the people of St. Louis and St. Charles for their efforts to get the Government to recognize the damage done to families in Missouri from the Manhattan Project & through the cold war. And sadly, through generations for the next 1000 years.
When I saw that RECA had been approved for Missouri, I immediately called my brother who is a cancer survior.
Our family home is in one of the affected zip codes.
To our dismay, my brother's cancer is not on the RECA list.
Yet?
So there is still a battle to be fought.

Watching the people gathered in the auditorium with so many sad stories made me think about my family.
My book, "Lake 33 Killing Relic" takes the radiation story of Weldon Spring and adds in the paranormal.
I did not mean to be whimsical on the subject of lingering radiation and cancers. The book is just one way of coping.
My brother.
My father.
My brother bravely fought through his cancer and the doctors told him afterwards, they had only given him a 30% chance of survival.
My father took another route.
Rather than fighting through years of chemotherapy, his decision was to end his life.
So his death certificate will never be listed as cancer. There will be no RECA money. None of his records were kept.
My early school years, we lived Bridgeton Missouri and our family eventually moved out to Highway DD, just past the Weldon Spring plant.
Such a beautiful area, so many jokes about radioactive springs. What else are you going to do except make jokes.
